Tahini (sesame seeds) is another great superfood to add into your regular diet due to it’s contents of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and other health-boosting, anti-aging, disease-fighting goodies.
Tahini is ground up sesame seeds with an earthy, buttery, smooth texture that’s similar to other traditional nut butters such as peanut butter. You can just eat the seed but it’s harder for our body to absorb the nutrients. Consuming sesame seeds in the paste form of tahini allows the body to absorb the nutrients they provide more efficiently.
Tahini is a great source of healthy fats and omega-3’s which helps to decrease inflammation and balance hormones.
It contains more antioxidants compared to most other nuts and seeds which help to repair cell damage and prevent cancer and other major diseases.
It’s a great source of B vitamins which are essential for energy.
It contains phosphorus and manganese which contribute to bone health.
It’s a great source of calcium that is alkaline vs acidic (all dairy products are acidic).
It contains zinc, copper and selenium which all contribute to thyroid health.
It’s a great plant based source of protein with 3 grams per tablespoon.
Tahini is very versatile and can be used in sweet or savory dishes. Peanut butter is a common ingredient used in so many healthy baking recipes these days. Tahini can be swapped out in equal amounts to pretty much all of those types of recipes.
